Trash to Treasure Project aimed at integration of informal sector in waste management. The project focuses on enumeration of waste pickers, livelihood improvement, entrepreneurship development and formation of bigger groups of waste pickers moving towards building a co-operative.
The key achievements of the project are:
- More than 6000 waste pickers are given ID cards through Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP).
- Successfully promoted policy intervention instruments by facilitating educational scholarships for children of waste pickers.
Alliance of Indian Waste pickers
Alliance of Indian Waste pickers (AIW) is a national network- coalition of membership based organizations working on organizing informal waste workers for ensuring access to livelihood and social security. As a national network AIW is helping in inclusion of informal waste workers, waste pickers in various waste management frameworks and social security measures for informal economy workers.
